About Drew
Drew Shechtman is a multidisciplinary, queer & trans artist, born and raised in South Florida. In 2025, he graduated from the School of The Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University, and currently resides in Queens, NY. His work has been in multiple award-winning publications, with two features on the cover of Seeds Literary Arts Magazine, and selected for prestigious art institutions, including the Norton Museum of Art, and Pérez Art Museum Miami.
Drew is most interested in experimenting with materiality and texture, following a trial and error approach to learning and making. His work has a keen focus on organic forms, and the intricate relationship between queer identity and the body. He explores dichotomies like birth/death, inside/outside, attraction/repulsion, and sacred/obscene, through ambiguity of form, origin, material, and history.
He draws a majority of inspiration from medical textbooks, anatomical imagery, and mortuary practices, and enjoys researching queer theory. With these sources, Drew models the human form in a way that not only acknowledges its basic abjective functions, but also honors its vulnerability and transience.
